Cheap Eco-Friendly Wedding Favors

We all want to save the environment, right? Well, not all of us do. In fact, there are a lot of mixed opinions out there on the matter. Eco-friendly wedding favors offer more than just being “green”. In fact, they are often very cheap wedding favors that you can easily make at home. So, even if the environment is not important to you on your wedding day, a green wedding favor idea or two can benefit you in other ways.

Plants make terrific eco-friendly wedding favors because they promote growth and keep balance in nature. Here are a few ideas for economical and stylish plant wedding favors.

Tulip Bulbs -  Tulip  bulbs make excellent wedding favors due to their dormancy. Tulip bulbs are usually available starting in August so as to be planted in cool weather. Craft your own packaging for the tulip bulbs by cutting squares of recycled paper and creating small pockets by stapling the edges of two squares together on three sides. Place bulb(s) in pocket and staple remaining side. For a simple design, paint a small tulip on the pocket in the color of the bulb’s future bloom.

Lucky Bamboo – Generally, lucky bamboo is purchased with one or two shoots rooted in a small vase. This makes it extra convenient for you when purchasing them as wedding favors. Lucky bamboo makes a great indoor plant, requiring weekly watering and indirect sunlight. Lucky bamboo favors sometimes are presented with a red ribbon tied around the stalks. This is due to its association with Feng Shui; the red is the “fire” that flows positive energy.

Shamrock – A icon associated with the Irish, the shamrock is a good luck charm that often is used in weddings. Consider giving your guests live shamrocks with a pin attached so that they may wear them at the reception. After the reception, have guests take them home where they can preserve them as keepsakes of your wedding. Though the shamrock is considered one of many Irish wedding favors, any couple who wishes to have good luck can use them.

Seed bags and tree seedlings are other wedding favor ideas that promote helping the environment. Often seeds and trees are wedding favors for spring weddings especially around Earth Day (April 22). Birdseed in netted bags is also a classic wedding favor that is fun for your guests and great for birds.
