How I Chose my Wedding Decorations
Weddings can be stressful if you are the only one planning it or have a tight budget. For my wedding, I decided to go simple and elegant. I had an outdoor wedding in April, just when things in my region are starting to blossom.
One factor that played a role in how I chose my wedding decorations is the greenery of the outdoors. Since I was planning to be married in front of pine trees, azaleas, gardenias, and honeysuckle, I eliminated green as a color in my wedding décor. I felt that having green in my dress or crown would have clashed against the backdrop of a wooded area. Instead, I opted for reds, pinks, and white.
The flower featured most at my wedding was the Gerbera daisy. They spiraled my cake, compiled my bouquet, and were centerpieces on my wedding reception tables. The Gerbera daises were mostly in red, pink, and white but there were also yellow added to the mix. I was slightly disappointed in this because I do not like yellow flowers.
Since my husband is a musician, I chose for the groom’s table to represent that characteristic. We ordered a cake in the shape of a guitar, with chocolate on the inside. We added novelty items to his table as well as the wedding reception tables in the form of guitar and music-related wedding favors such as electric guitar card holders, music note pads, and rock n roll style boxes. He also played a song at our wedding.
For a festive approach, I went with stringed paper lanterns as the outdoor lighting. We thought it looked really great against a wooden fence and lattice. The wedding took place at dusk, and the effect was a quiet, relaxed ambiance. Our arbor was laced with ivy and was very beautiful. The wedding reception tables at my wedding were round with white tablecloths. On them were glass containers with fake stones and lit candles. The flame from the candle reflected on the stones and glass- very pretty.
Overall, I had a small wedding. I invited family and close friends. I wanted it very low-key, but special. It was important to me to get married outdoors in nature. If there is something that you really want to happen on your wedding day, my advice is to try and make it happen. It should carry a lot of weight, whether it deals with your dress, tux, location, honeymoon spot, cake or simply wedding favor ideas.
